Taylor Swift may not have any feature film directorial credits to her name yet, but three-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (Brokeback Mountain) is already singing her praises.

Prieto, who was tasked to create a pinked-out Barbie Land in the blockbuster Barbie, has worked with Swift on the music videos for her songs “The Man,” “Willow” and “Cardigan.” Swift directed those three music videos and more than a dozen of her others over the last 15 years.

From his perspective, Prieto believes Swift is an “excellent” director and would be “thrilled” if he got the opportunity to work with her on her feature directorial debut. Late last year, Searchlight Pictures announced it was producing Swift’s first movie from an original script.

“I know about this project,” Prieto told TheWrap. “I don’t know what the status is right now because I’ve been on my movie, but we have talked about it, and I don’t know if I’ll end up doing it or someone else [will], but I think she’s great.”

It’s a great compliment coming from Prieto, who has worked with incredible filmmakers during his career, including Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, Oliver Stone, and Alejandro González Iñárritu.

“Obviously she’s quite an artist, but she’s also an excellent director,” Prieto said. “I must say the stuff I’ve done with her, the music videos, she’s been extraordinary. Someone who didn’t grow up as a director – she’s a musician and a singer and wonderful at that – to see that she understands cinema and understands storytelling, she understands how to tell the story with a camera, and she’s great with the technical aspects as well. She’s another person I admire very much, so if I had the opportunity to work with her, I’d be thrilled.”

There’s no word yet on when the film by Taylor Swift will go into production, but we’re hoping Rodrigo Prieto gets on board when it does.
