We’ve finally gotten our first look at Jenna Ortega as Astrid in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. And she looks like she just walked out of the original and into the sequel, 36 years later. Entertainment Weekly has the first look at the actress, who will star alongside returning stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and newcomer Justin Theroux in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The movie is set to be released on September 6, 2024.
Ryder and O’Hara will reprise their roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz, the daughter and mother duo. Ortega, meanwhile, will play Lydia’s daughter Astrid. Theroux will play a character by the name of Rory. And Michael Keaton will, of course, return as the title character of Beetlejuice.
There’s not much information about the sequel, though the idea behind it, for director Tim Burton, clearly had to do with bringing together three generations of Deetz women. And if the first look is to be believed, Ortega, as the younger generation, is bringing just the right Gen Z vibes to the Deetz family.
The recently released still shows O’Hara as Delia, Ryder as Lydia, Ortega as Astrid, and Theroux as Rory. All the characters are dressed in black, with O’Hara sporting red gloves. Ortega’s trademark deadpan expression is present. There isn’t much color to Astrid’s outfit, but there is a striped dress underneath her black trenchcoat. Alongside this still, EW also released a still of Keaton in character as Beetlejuice.
The fan reactions were swift and positive.
With Ortega fans, in particular, celebrating Astrid first and foremost.
And, of course, celebrating the fact that they’re going to get Jenna Ortega and Winona Rider together, playing mother and daughter.
People are also preparing to be absolutely unbearable once the trailer drops, and they actually have footage.
