We finally have a first look at Jenna Ortega in Beetlejuice 2.
Thanks to People magazine, the Wednesday star is seen wearing a light pink wedding dress, a veil, and white Dr Martens with pink shoe laces. Ryder on the other hand, has her outfit covered by a black puffer jacket, but we can see she is sporting her iconic gothic hairdo from the first film.
There’s also another photo circulating of the man she’s “supposedly” going to marry. It looks to be British actor Filipe Cates.
The sequel is being filmed in the UK, where Burton resides. And previous images, from May this year, showed a creepy set in Buckinghamshire, with crypts and old churches. The current photos were taken in Hertfordshire, England.
There have been attempts at a Beetlejuice sequel for decades now. After the first film came out in 1988, director Tim Burton brought the character back in the 1990s with the unsuccessful script Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. After years of no further development, in May of 2023, it was officially announced by Warner Bros. that the grimy ghost was coming back!
The plot of the new film has not been disclosed, however, we have confirmation that Winona Ryder will reprise her role as the gothic icon Lydia and that Ortega will portray her daughter. Michael Keaton is also returning to the role of Beetlejuice.
Of course, after the images were released fans of the film were really excited to catch a glimpse of Ryder characterized as Lydia, and were also intrigued by what Ortega’s character might be like.
Some people even theorized that her character will follow the same fate as Lydia in the first movie and be forced to marry Beetlejuice.
In the OG movie, Lydia wore a red wedding dress that has become so iconic that it’s instantly recognizable.
Overall, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the production, especially when it comes to Jenna Ortega.
Beetlejuice 2 is confirmed to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
