3000 Pictures’ Single Female, a remake of the 1990s box office hit Single White Female, has found a writer and cast. Sarah DeLappe will pen the script for the movie, according to Deadline. De Lappe’s last film, the A24 2022 horror comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies was both a commercial and critical success.
But it’s the cast that’s got us interested in this remake.
Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are set to start. Ortega and Russell will also produce, alongside Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva. The movie’s title has been changed to reflect the changing ethnicities of the two leads, but otherwise, the new film is expected to follow the same beats as the original.
The 1992 psychological erotic thriller starred Bridget Fonda as Allison and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Hedra. After Allison rents a room in her apartment to Hedra, she begins to worry about her strange behavior, particularly when it comes to her. At the time, the film was a surprise hit, and it turned Fonda and Leigh into recognizable names.
No information has been released about when the script is expected or when Single Female will start shooting. Ortega is right now in production on the third season of the Netflix show Wednesday and will also star in Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun and J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond.
Russell, meanwhile, is set to star in the movie Hope, from director Na Hong-jin. She rose to fame because of her breakout role in Luca Guadagnino’s film Bones and All opposite Timothée Chalamet.
