Juanes will soon make his debut in the world of film. The first images of the Colombian rocker in the upcoming Prime Video movie Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina alongside stars like Alberto Guerra and Alejandro Speitzer were released.
Though Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina will mark Juanes’ first time in a major film, it’s not his first acting credit. The singer with multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards appeared as a guest star in an episode of Jane The Virgin in 2014. Juanes has also done voice work for movies like Ferdinand and Captain Avispa. Now he will star in a movie about “pimpineros,” or people who illegally smuggle gasoline from one country to another. The movie by Colombian director Andrés Baiz takes place at the border between Venezuela and Colombia.
“Pimpinero is about geographical and physical borders, but above all about ethical, moral and emotional borders,” Baiz, director, writer, and executive producer of the film, shared in a statement. “The result is an exciting film, full of beauty, truth, and a lot of adrenaline. I look forward to sharing it with the public.”
Baiz has also served as a director on series like Griselda, Narcos: Mexico, Narcos, and The Hidden Face. In Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina, Juanes will play the character of Moises. He looks rugged in one of the images released from the film alongside Guerra and Speitzer.
The meeting in the first-look photo appears to take place at the border between Colombia and Venezuela. Other images show Speitzer getting intimate on the dance floor with Laura Osma and Baiz in the middle of directing a scene.
Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina will debut on Amazon’s Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories by the end of the year. The movie will first premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Sept. 9. Juanes’ most recent album Vida Cotidiana was released last year.
