This Latina-Led Show Beat ‘House of the Dragon’ As the Top Trending Searched Show of 2024

Google’s Year in Search data information as well as the data on the trends from trends that defined the past year have been released! And the info on the trillions of searches on Google in 2024 has given us one important metric to report: people in the U.S. really, really cared about Griselda. The Netflix show topped the rankings for TV shows, beating names like Baby Reindeer, Fallout, Shōgun, and House of the Dragon.
Griselda debuted strong for Netflix, making it into the streamer’s Top 10. But it was particularly surprising to see it beat out such names as House of the Dragon, which according to Warner Bros. Discovery averaged 25 million cross-platform viewers in Season 2, and Shōgun, whose first episode broke records by receiving 9 million views globally in its first six days.
The Netflix miniseries, starring Sofía Vergara focuses on the rise to power of Colombian Griselda Blanco, widely known as “The Godmother,” who created one of the most profitable cartels in history in 1970-1980’s Miami.
Griselda is from the creators and executive producers of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. Vergara is both the star and executive producer of the limited series. She underwent a considerable physical transformation to play Blanco, looking unrecognizable in the role, and has received considerable critical acclaim and an Emmy and a Golden Globe Nomination for the role.
Vergara rose to fame for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC sitcom Modern Family, for which she also received critical acclaim. However, there was a lot of doubt about whether she could transition from comedy to the more dramatic role of Griselda Blanco, particularly considering the physical transformation needed. Vergara, however, proved all the critics wrong and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews for her performance.
