On Friday (August 26), Netflix released a handful of first-look photos for its upcoming series Blockbuster.

The show will star Randall Park (Always Be My Maybe) as Timmy Yoon, the manager of the last Blockbuster Video in America. Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) plays Eliza, an employee working in the store and a dedicated mother whose marriage to her high school sweetheart is on the rocks. She is also Timmy’s long-time crush. Eliza left Harvard after one semester to start a family and now works renting movies to customers.

As the logline reads, the Blockbuster staff “fights hard to stay relevant, [and] the only way to succeed is to remind their community that they provide something big corporations can’t: human connection.” The series is created and co-executive produced by Vanessa Ramos (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

Other Latine talent cast on the show are Tyler Alvarez (Never Have I Ever) as Carlos Herrera, the first-generation son of immigrants and aspiring filmmaker who learned English by watching movies; and Olga Merediz (In the Heights) as Connie Serrano, a candid employee and mother figure at Blockbuster who is there to make friends.

In one released photo, the entire staff can be seen wearing matching uniforms – dark blue polo shirts with the Blockbuster logo and khaki pants. In another, Eliza looks confused while organizing DVDs on a shelf. Connie is also seen in the same photo smiling over a crate of movies. It looks like it’s going to be a Blockbuster night, and we’re already feeling the nostalgia.

Blockbuster premieres on Netflix on November 3, 2022.
