For those entertainment junkies who still like collecting hard copies of movies, you’ve probably noticed that many of Netflix’s original series like The Queen’s Gambit and Bridgerton are not available to purchase on Blu-ray or DVD. Luckily, for fans of Jenna Ortega, that won’t be the case for the first season of her popular comedy-horror series, Wednesday.

While rare, Wednesday will be making its debut as a piece of physical media on March 26, 2024, when Season 1 is released on Blu-ray and DVD. Quick note: March 26 is a Tuesday.

Other Netflix original series that have been released on Blu-ray and DVD in the past include Orange is the New Black, Narcos and Stranger Things. There are a lot of factors when deciding if a Netflix original series will make it to store shelves, including if the show’s non-streaming distribution rights are owned by Netflix.

Currently, Wednesday Season 1 is ranked No. 1 in total views at 252.1 million. Stranger Things Season 4 comes in a distant second with 140.7 total views.

In January 2023, Wednesday was officially renewed for a second season. It will start shooting in Ireland beginning this April. In July 2023, Ortega landed her first-ever Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming the third — and youngest — Latina to receive the nod.

Last month, it was reported that Netflix was so invested in Wednesday, they were thinking of producing a spin-off series featuring the character Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen). If things go as well for that series as they did for Wednesday, we’re sure Netflix will be adding to their Blu-ray and DVD library.
