Netflix
Netflix has announced the release date for One Hundred Years of Solitude, the show based on Gabriel García Márquez’s novel of the same name. The Spanish-language show’s first season, set to run for two, will be released on December 11th and consist of eight episodes.
One Hundred Years of Solitude was directed by Laura Mora and Alex García López and was filmed entirely in Colombia, with support from Gabriel García Márquez’s family.
“As a filmmaker, and as a Colombian, it has been an honor and a huge challenge to work on a project as complex and that carries as much responsibility as One Hundred Years of Solitude, always striving to understand the difference between the literary and audiovisual languages and to be able to construct images that contain the beauty, poetry, and depth of a work that has impacted the entire world.” Director Laura Mora said. “We’ve done it with love and respect for the novel, with the support of an exceptional technical and human team.”
“Directing this project has been both a challenge and an adventure; after all, in life, taking risks is necessary to give meaning to what we do.” Director Alex García López said, “When diving into the adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude, my intention was to create something authentic that carries the stature of an international production because the story deserves it.”

One Hundred Years of Solitude is an adaptation of the novel of the same name published in 1967 and considered one of the emblematic works of Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. Márquez passed away in 2014. Considered an exemplary piece of magical realism, the novel has sold more than 50 million copies and has been translated into more than 40 languages.
