Real Women Have Curves: The Musical has found its leading ladies.
Tatianna Córdoba is set to make her Broadway debut as Ana Garcia, the role that America Ferrera made famous in the 2002 film. She will be joined by Justina Machado as Carmen Garcia. The musical will begin performances on April 1 at the James Earl Jones Theatre in New York, ahead of an opening night on April 27.
The musical follows Ana Garcia, who dreams of escaping East Los Angeles. But when her family receives a make-or-break order for 200 dresses, she finds herself juggling her ambitions, her mother’s expectations, and a community of women all trying to make it all work. The musical is based on the play by Josefina López that inspired the hit film, Real Women Have Curves.
Sergio Trujillo will be in charge of the direction and choreography of the musical, with music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning artist Joy Huerta (one half of the Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy) and composer/lyricist Benjamin Velez, book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin, and music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo.

Justina Machado is better known for the Netflix/POP TV comedy One Day at a Time. She is set to star in the upcoming Netflix medical drama Pulse. She also starred on Broadway in In The Heights and A Free Man of Color and previously played the role of Carmen Garcia in the world premiere of Real Women Have Curves: The Musical at the American Repertory Theater in 2023. Tatianna Córdoba, meanwhile, will be making her Broadway debut.
