So, we’re all really pumped that Star Wars is back – even more so given the fact that Oscar Isaac will have a starring role as badass X-wing pilot Poe Dameron – but the real question is whether it actually went anywhere. Indeed, the 38-year-old blockbuster franchise has proven to be more tenacious than a Cuban guasasa fly, with plenty of fan fiction to fill in the 10- to 15-year breaks between trilogies. As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve just learned that the first of several standalone stories from within the Star Wars universe has begun shooting. It was only a few months ago that we shared with you that baby-faced Mexican heartthrob Diego Luna was cast in one of the principal roles of the spin-off, but now that the production has begun, the full cast has been announced and the first image released.

Titled Rogue One, this latest addition to the ever-growing Star Wars family will take place just before the events of original Star Wars released in 1977 and will focus on a group of resistance fighters who have stolen the plans to the Death Star. According to producer Kathleen Kennedy, the big difference here is that Rogue One will focus more on the nitty-gritty of ground war and less on all that operatic dynasty stuff that characterized the first couple of trilogies.

It has yet to be confirmed whether Diego Luna will be incorporating the sensual dance moves he perfected in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, but with a confirmed release date of December 16, 2016, we only have to wait about 487 days to find out.
