The 2026 Golden Globes are shaping up to be a historic night for our communities. Tessa Thompson has become the first Afro-Latina to be nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category for her work in Hedda.

Previously, Ariana DeBose won the Supporting Actress award in the Comedy or Musical category for West Side Story. And Zoe Saldaña won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for Emilia Peréz.

Other previous Latina actresses nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama have been included Fernanda Torres for I’m Still Here, Ana de Armas for Blonde, Salma Hayek for Frida, and Fernanda Montenegro for Central Station.

She’s not the only one making history. Wagner Moura became the first Brazilian man ever to be nominated in the Lead Actor drama category this year for Kleber Mendonça Filho’s film The Secret Agent. Other actors from our community nominated this year include Oscar Isaac for Frankenstein, in the same category as Moura.

Hedda is a modern, queer reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s famous play from director Nia DaCosta. The film sees Thompson fight against stereotypes and expectations during one eventful party. Most recently Thompson won the Tribute Award at the Gotham Awards.

And this year, we have plenty of nominees from our communities to look forward to. Other than Thompson, Isaac and Moura, Benicio del Toro (One Battle After Another) was nominated in the Supporting category for Drama, and Guillermo del Toro (Frankenstein) was nominated as best director.

Frankenstein was also nominated for best movie in the drama category, while The Secret Agent was nominated in the Best Motion Picture – Non English Language category.

On the TV side, Diego Luna got a nomination for Andor for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama. Selena Gomez got one for Only Murders in the Building for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Jenna Ortega was also nominated for Wednesday in the same category as Gomez.

The 2026 Golden Globes (83rd Annual) will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 and will air live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
