Tessa Thompson (Creed III) has joined actors Paul Rudd and Amy Adams for the comedy The Invite from directors Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine) and written by Emmy nominee Rashida Jones and Academy Award winner Will McCormack.

According to Deadline, Thompson will play a woman named Kayla who is invited by Joe (Rudd) and Angela (Adams) for cocktails. Joe is ready to confront the “boisterous neighbors” as Kayla also brings her husband Shane along. But Joe and Angela are surprised at the genuine connection between them all. And before they know it, they’re being invited over to participate in a weekly orgy Kayla and her husband have at their home, testing their bonds of marriage and what it means to have a modern relationship entering new waters.

The story is based on the 2020 Spanish film Sentimental by director and writer Cesc Gay. It starred Alberto San Juan, Griselda Siciliani, Javier Cámara, and Belén Cuesta. And in 2022 there was an Italian remake titled Vicini di casa.

Social media users seemed happy at the combination of the three actors.

And some were super excited for Thompson and Rudd to have screen time, especially considering they both were in Marvel but never met up.

Most recently, Thompson reprised her role as Bianca in the sequel Creed III. Last year, she reprised her role as Valkyrie in the sequel Thor: Love and Thunder. Next up for Thompson is a role in the film Hedda from director Nia DaCosta (Candyman). Thompson, who will also serve as a producer on the project, and DaCosta worked together on the underrated 2018 film Little Woods.

Last year, Thompson explained to Remezcla why representation matters on the big and small screens and why it brings people together. “I think the stories that we tell and how we tell them really reverberate into representing the times we live too,” she said. “So, it’s not lost on me in terms of the opportunity to help folks be seen.”

Tessa Thompson added: “I don’t know what it is about being able to see a reflection of yourself on screen that makes you feel less alone. But I think that’s why we all like movies and television shows. Because we have the opportunity to invest in parts of our own humanity in seeing them being projected on screen.”
