On Monday (April 18), viewers got a glimpse of something that was quite impressive during the teaser trailer for the Marvel sequel Thor: Love and Thunder and, no, it wasn’t Natalie Portman’s Lady Thor biceps (although they were extraordinary, too).
Instead, we’re talking about the one-second shot of actress Tessa Thompson dressed in a dark, pinstriped, three-piece suit. The quick scene comes exactly at the one-minute mark of the teaser when Peter Quill (AKA Star-Lord) asks, “You ever feel lost?” The question comes half a second before the King of New Asgard, which Thompson is playing if we’re following the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, is shown sitting in a black chair inside a boardroom with a serious look on her face.
King Valkyrie’s suit includes dark pants and jacket and a matching vest, a white collared shirt, and a dark purple tie. She is wearing some gold rings on her fingers and holding something that looks like a long toothpick. She may or may not be chewing gum. Either way, King Valkyrie looks like a boss. Some might argue that her business attire suits her even better than the superhero outfit she wears in Thor: Ragnarok, but we digress.
Marvel fans were beside themselves when Thompson showed up in the teaser sporting the power suit. Some viewers only wanted more scenes with Thompson in a suit. To heck with the rest of the trailer.
Others playfully suggested Thompson in a suit was a whole “new sexuality” and thanked whoever keeps putting her in a suit.
Some were looking forward to watching what, they said, just might turn out to be the “gayest Marvel movie yet.” We’ll definitely be here for that.
Thor: Love and Thunder, featuring Tessa Thompson, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
