The Looking boys are back! And for a wedding, no less. Patrick (Hamilton’s Jonathan Groff) is back in San Francisco for a friend’s wedding. But whose wedding is it? The recently released trailer for the Andrew Haigh-directed film doesn’t really tell us who’s getting married. It could definitely be Agustín (Frankie J. Alvarez) who’s freaking out over his relationship with the lovable, down to earth Eddie (Mean Girls’ Daniel Franzese). Despite them getting along swimmingly, the former artist can’t help but wonder: won’t he just fuck it up like he usually does? We all remember how spectacularly he messed up his previous relationship.
We definitely hope it’s not Richie (Raúl Castillo), who we see yet again happily partnered with that ginger boyfriend of his from season 2, but finds time to dole out some words of wisdom to his former beau: “Sometimes you gotta leave things behind so you can move forward.” It’s not quite “It’s not you, it’s me,” but it definitely has the same vibe. Then again, the trailer also has him telling Patrick that he seems to have lost his sense of romance. Might they be able to rekindle something together? Thankfully we won’t have to wait too long to find out!
After screening at Frameline40, Looking: The Movie will premiere Saturday July 23 at 10PM on HBO.
