During an appearance on The View Tuesday (May 3), reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny made his first comments about being cast in a Marvel-Sony movie.

The news broke more than a week ago at Cinemacon in Las Vegas that Bad Bunny will play the Marvel superhero El Muerto in a standalone project.

“I still don’t believe it,” Bad Bunny told The View panel when asked if he has been able to absorb the news yet. “It’s huge. It’s amazing. I’m very confused. Like, really? I’m gonna be part of the Marvel Universe.”

Although we don’t know where Bad Bunny will fit into the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” when all is said and done, he will be the first Latine lead to headline a live-action Marvel property as El Muerto. It’s quite a feat for someone who has never played the leading man on screen before.

“I’m very excited, happy and proud,” Bad Bunny said. “I think people are gonna be proud about my work.”

El Muerto, a super-powered luchador whose real name is Juan-Carlos Sanchez, first debuted in a Marvel comic book in 2006. In that storyline, he fights Spider-Man at a charity event where he almost unmasks the Avenger. Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Motion Picture Group, called the hiring of Bad Bunny “perfect casting.”

Before the “Yonaguni” singer makes his superhero debut in theaters in 2024, he will make his feature film debut this summer as an assassin in the action flick Bullet Train alongside Brad Pitt.
