Christina Aguilera is saying thank you, no thank you to being part of Britney Spears’ new memoir. And considering what has already been reported from The Woman in Me, including an abortion and Justin Timberlake cheating on Britney, we can’t exactly blame her.
Aguilera discussed the upcoming memoir from fellow singer Spears during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her new Vegas residency. She, of course, didn’t start out talking about Spears. Instead, she started out the conversation discussing her Halloween obsession, going all out with decorations and creating a haunted house as well as her new show in Las Vegas.
But to Kimmel’s question of whether she would choose to be in the memoir or not, Aguilera took the high road. “I’m hoping that everything is all good with her and everything’s beautiful,” she said. “I think the future should be celebrated.” There’s a kinda jokey but not back and forth afterward that feels uncomfortable, as Aguilera asks Kimmel “For real, for real?”
That’s probably because Aguilera, like us, knows if Britney Spears is writing a memoir, there’s very little chance Aguilera is not getting mentioned. The two do have a history, after all. They met in the 1990s as members of The Mickey Mouse Club and were constantly pitted against each other as they both launched pop careers. Then there was that infamous VMA performance with Madonna.
In later years, however, Aguilera spoke out in support of Spears during her conservatorship battle, and their relationship seemed to be much better. That is, however, until Spears made apparent body-shaming comments about Aguilera that prompted the latter to unfollow her on Instagram. Spears later clarified her comments, but things have remained frosty since.
Britney Spears’ memoir hits stands on October 24th.
