The teaser trailer for Netflix’s Cabinet of Curiosities, a live-action horror anthology from the mind of Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), debuted online Monday morning (June 6) and looks like it could trigger a few sleepless nights.

The trailer begins with movement beneath what looks to be a freshly dug grave covered in slithering worms. The scene shifts to a cemetery at night lit by a line of lampposts. The creepy imagery continues from inside a dim warehouse (or maybe an abandoned hospital) where a body lies motionless on a table.

The scene then transitions inside an elegant old home where white text appears on the screen that reads, “Experience new worlds and 8 chilling stories told by the directors of…” Those words are followed by the most recognizable titles from the eight diverse filmmakers who Del Toro has assembled to direct one episode each in the series.

Those directors are Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Vincenzo Natali (Splice), Guillermo Navarro (TV’s Hannibal), David Prior (The Empty Man), and Keith Thomas (The Vigil).

The teaser trailer continues with more chilling scenes featuring a book with a pentagram illustration, paintings of anguished humans, a medieval pendant, a decomposing hand, a stuffed fox and owl, the inside of a large church, skeletons, spiders, and a blazing fire. We have no idea what any of the eight stories are about yet, but it has certainly captured our attention.

Cabinet of Curiosities is set to premiere in 2022 but currently does not have an official release date.
