The first trailer for the Netflix series Tríada (Triptych) starring RBD’s Maite Perroni hit online Wednesday (January 25), and viewers are saying it reminds them of a Spanish-language Orphan Black.

The early comparisons come from the fact that Orphan Black is a sci-fi thriller that focuses on a story of human cloning. And the official trailer for Tríada, seems to hit the same beats of woman discovering a woman who looks eerily similar to her after the woman dies. Then finding another. And another.

Created by Leticia López Margalli (Dark Desires), the official synopsis from Netflix reads: “After learning she was separated at birth from her two identical sisters, Rebecca (Perroni) embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the truth about her origins.”

Based on the trailer, it looks like Perroni, who will be going on a tour with RBD this year, plays all three roles. The trailer begins with Rebecca, a forensic expert, at a crime scene where she finds a dead woman who looks exactly like her. “It was like being in front of a mirror,” Rebecca says as she looks down at the body.

The dead woman is Aleida Trujano, the president of an international corporation. Rebecca, of course, wants to know more about her. She asks her mother if she had another daughter who she gave away. Rebecca also has a theory that Aleida’s mother and her family want to keep her death a secret.

Later in the trailer, Rebecca meets another woman, an exotic dancer, who looks exactly like her, too. What’s the real story behind the set of triplets and why do the two remaining ones seem to now be in serious danger? “I need to know who we are,” Rebecca says.

Tríada, starring Maite Perroni, premieres on Netflix on February 22, 2023.
