Xochitl Gomez experienced some tricks and treats on the sixth episode of Dancing with the Stars on Tuesday (October 31). Labeled “Monster Night” for Halloween, Gomez earned the biggest treat of the evening when she and dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy recorded the highest score of the show. However, there was also a trick when she got injured at the end of her performance.

At the beginning of their contemporary dance to the song “Game of Survival” by Ruelle, Chmerkovskiy placed a black cape over Gomez as she lay on the floor dressed in a white gown that sort of looked like mummy wraps. She and Chmerkovskiy delivered an intense performance that featured a lot of carries, spins, and poses.

There were four judges for the Monster Night episode. Bruno Tonioli told Chmerkovskiy that he had “created a monster” with Gomez. Carrie Ann Inaba said the storytelling aspect of the performance was “powerful” and “intrigued” her. Derek Hough told Gomez she “sent shivers down my spine.” Special guest judge and actress Niecy Nash-Betts said that Gomez’s performance was “gorgeous.”

Gomez and Chmerkovskiy earned three 9s and one 10 for a total score of 37, which initially tied for the highest score of the night.

The dance was definitely impressive, but there was also a scary moment at the end of it when Gomez got hurt. The live feed didn’t capture how Gomez was injured, but Chmerkovskiy carried her to the judges’ table to listen to their feedback and then carried her backstage to get their scores. Host Alfonso Ribeiro was also heard saying, “Uh oh” when the incident happened.

“I’m OK y’all,” Gomez said in a video that was posted on Instagram Stories, showing that her leg got scraped up when she jumped onto the final platform. By that point, it was wrapped up and they were painting the wrap her skin tone so it wouldn’t be noticeable for the rest of the show. “We good.”

Gomez was so good, that she returned with the rest of the contestants to the dance floor later in the show to compete in a “Monster-thon” dance marathon. Gomez and Chmerkovskiy ended up winning the “Monster-thon” and were given an extra five points for the night.
