Luis Guzmán has been cast in the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday. The actor will take on the role of affectionate and doting father Gomez Addams. As Gomez Addams, he joins Raul Julia, Tim Curry, and John Astin, who have also played the character in other iterations of The Addams Family. As for the new cast, Guzmán will be joining Jenna Ortega, who was previously announced to be taking on the lead role of Wednesday.

Wednesday, the live-action series, will be directed and produced by Tim Burton. The eight-episode creepy and kooky series is scheduled to debut on Netflix, though no premiere date has been announced. It is reportedly centered around Wednesday Addams’ character as she makes her way through Nevermore Academy while managing new powers and supernatural mystery centered on her family.

Guzman retweeted support from fans, critics, and fellow actors — and packing all of his excitement into one word: “Thrilled.” Many fans are thrilled with the news of this casting, with one person tweeting, “Don’t know about all of you but Luis Guzman is such a GREAT choice for Gomez Addams – love it,” while another added, “I was just wondering what Luis Guzman was up to these days and seeing he was cast as Gomez Addams today made my heart grow three sizes.”

This latest project will add to Guzmán’s over 155 acting credits. Most recently, he appeared in the animated AMC+ Series Ultra City Smiths, which is currently airing. Before that, he was on the final season of Shameless on Showtime, though he is probably best known for his roles in Traffic and Boogie Nights
