Another Love Island USA Contestant Leaves Villa After Racist Comments Resurfaced

Cierra has left the villa on Love Island USA season 7.

The shocking turn of events happened Sunday, July 6 during Episode 30. For the first 15 minutes of the show Cierra wasn’t shown at all. You only got a brief glimpse of her in bed when the show was going through the list of couples together. And it wasn’t until the 15:52 mark that it was announced that she had “left the Villa due to a personal situation, leaving Nic officially single.”

All of this comes after racist comments resurfaced online thanks to fans. In a post from 2015 Cierra could be seen posing on a rock with the caption saying, “Still chinkin’ even at the top.” And during an Instagram story where she was getting botox, she said “I can also be a little chinky when I laugh/smile so I love getting a mini brow lift.”

The word “chinky” is a racial slur that targets Asian communities. It refers to their more almond shaped or slender eyes. It is not an endearment, but an outdated and offensive term that perpetuates anti-Asian racism.

The use of the slur has led to a flurry of conversation online denouncing Cierra and demanding that Love Island USA remove her like they did with Yulissa in Episode 2 after videos resurfaced of her using racial slurs as well.

On July 4th Yulissa uploaded a video on her TikTok addressing the situation of her removal and the videos.

Despite videos speculating that she was removed from the island during sleep hours, she said she was removed after speaking to a producer in the morning. After spending 2 days at a hotel without her phone, she saw the uproar online and said, “I was like, f—, no. I can’t believe people think I’m racist.”

Yulissa has since apologized for the use of racial slurs in an Instagram post. “In those clips, I used a word I never should’ve used, a racial slur. I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it,” she wrote.”

As for Cierra, the last thing posted on her account was coupling up with Nic. The family and friends running her account have stepped away once the racist comments from Cierra resurfaced online. She has not issued an apology at this time.
