*The following contains minor spoilers for Wednesday Season 2, Part 1.*
Wednesday Season 2, Part 1 brings us back to Nevermore, and it does so with a little more of everything that made the first season so successful. More character development, even higher stakes, a great deal of surprising faces, and yes, an even more diverse soundtrack. There are cello solos, ’90s throwbacks, and even K-pop songs. But there’s also a little bit more of Latin America.
“We took the energy of what we did for Season 1 and opened another door,” Nicole Weisberg, one of the show’s music supervisors, told Tudum. “So now Season 2 feels more expansive musically.”
The first episode features a song by Chavela Vargas, titled “Un Mundo Raro” at the 7:20 timestamp mark. Ironically, Chavela Vargas had another song, “La Llorona,” featured in the series premiere, so this makes it a very special encore that adds some authenticity to the characters, something music supervisor Jen Malong confirmed, calling it a “homage” to the “Latin heritage” of Ortega and Guzmán.

In this particular instance, “Un Mundo Raro” is used to set the tone as Wednesday hides her psychic abilities from her mother, Morticia. And though the vibes are very much those of Wednesday, it’s kind of weird, but enjoyable, the song will stand out to all of those who are somewhat familiar with Spanish language music.
“Un Mundo Raro” was written by José Alfredo Jiménez, sometimes called the king of rancheras, and originally released in 1961 by the singer. But it was Chavela Vargas’ version that truly became famous. Now, the song is no longer niche thanks to Wednesday. It’s a weird world indeed.
