The fifth season of La casa de los famosos started off with a bang earlier this month on Telemundo. With new alliances forming and arguments sparking between All-Star housemates, the Spanish-language reality TV series has kept fans glued to their screens over the last few weeks.

One particular element of the show that doesn’t seem to get the credit it deserves is “La Jefa,” the unseen woman who speaks to the contestants inside the house and makes sure everyone plays by the rules. As chaotic as La casa de los famosos can get, imagine the competition happening without “La Jefa” keeping everyone in check.

So, who actually is the woman behind the voice? Meet Jessica Ortiz, a Mexican voice actress who has worked in the film and TV industry for nearly 30 years.

Born in Mexico City, Ortiz got her start in the sound booth when she dubbed Rose McGowan’s character for the release of original 1996 slasher flick, Scream, in Mexico. Since then, she’s been a staple in the industry with work on the Spanish-language versions of live-action films like Avatar (Zoe Saldaña’s role), Solo: A Star Wars Story (Thandiwe Newton’s role) and Peter Rabbit (Rose Byrne’s role).

Ortiz has been most prolific as a dubbing actress in animated movies. Her career includes films like Cars, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Rango. She even lent her voice to Wonder Woman in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

“Dubbing is no small thing,” Ortiz told People en Español. “You just think it’s the voice and that’s it. You need to have a rhythm. It’s like learning to drive. You need to keep practicing.”

Next month, Ortiz will be heard in one of the biggest roles of her career, dubbing Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen character in the live-action version of Disney’s Snow White.

Until then, we’ll keep listening to her call the shots as “La Jefa” in La casa de los famosos.
