Boxer Canelo Álvarez, the undisputed champion of the world and Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Fighter of the Year, knows how to make a taco that’ll knock you out.

According to Telemundo, Álvarez and his brother and restaurant partner Ricardo are expanding their taqueria, El Pastor Del Rica, into Chula Vista, California, the second largest city in the San Diego area. Ricardo Álvarez recently confirmed the news.

He said they chose Chula Vista because it borders Mexico and is “a city that we have known for a long time.” Canelo Álvarez has homes in both San Diego and Guadalajara. “We are going to bring what is the true Mexican taco,” Ricardo Álvarez said.

The brothers will open their new location inside an old auto parts store at 645 Broadway, which is currently being remodeled. Along with the tacos al pastor, some of the other dishes the restaurant is known for include lengua, tripas, chorizo, suadero, campechano, and quesadillas. The menu also boasts a selection of aguas frescas.

While Canelo Álvarez owns a taqueria, we’re guessing that if the champion boxer scarfs down a few tacos these days, he’s going into the gym right after. During his last fight, he looked in prime shape when he scored an 11th round TKO victory over Caleb Plant this past November to win his fourth super middleweight title.

Since then, the fighter has stayed busy. He recently donated $1 million to a children’s cancer charity and, as he’s done before, showed off his love for singing in front of strangers. Maybe he’ll open a karaoke bar next.
