Celebrating Día de los Muertos can now be extended to your heavy duty kitchen ware. Lodge Cast Iron has once again partnered with Mexican artist Lourdes Villagomez to launch a new line of collectible cast iron skillets engraved with Villagomez’ special Dia de los Muertos designs.

The new series features fan favorite designs, such as the original Sugar Skull skillet and the Xolo Sugar Skull Comal, along with the introduction of a new design, a Butterfly Sugar Skull Skillet. This new design features a pattern of sugar skulls, monarch butterflies, and the Day of the dead flower, Cempasuchil spread across the pan.

On Instagram, Villagomez shared her process of designing the pan for Lodge Cast Iron, sharing the placement of the hand drawn design elements on a circle to play with their placement and envision a final design.

In describing the elements that were selected, Villagomez states “The imagery of butterflies serves as a reminder of the transient nature of life and the eternal cycle of renewal. Through my designs of the Lodge Day of the Dead Skillets, I capture the essence of this profound symbolism, conveying themes of transformation, remembrance, and the enduring spirit of those who have passed.”

Lourdes Villagomez is a Mexican artist renowned for her use of bright colors and designs that emphasizes and celebrates Mexican culture. She works across several formats such as mural painting, digital art, and product branding.

In a statement about the collaboration, Villagomez shares that the Day of the Dead holds a special significance for her, offering a time for “deep reflection on life, death, and the interconnectedness of existence.” As an artist, Villagomez channels her creativity into her practice, and this period of reflection is a special time for her to connect to her roots,The celebration of the Day of the Dead offers not only a time of cultural connection and remembrance but also an opportunity for artistic expression and contemplation,” says Villgagomez.

The Lodge Cast Iron Pans are now available for purchase, and range from $26.95 to $34.95 online
