The fans of one of Taco Bell’s most viral items have spoken — and it seems they’ve been heard. Soon, Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza will reclaim its place on the restaurant’s permanent menu.

After returning to Taco Bell in May 2022 after a two-year hiatus, the pizza was pulled from the menu again because the demand was too high.

“We’re working diligently with our restaurants and suppliers to get more back in the hands and stomachs of our biggest fans by this fall,” Taco Bell promised fans in a special FAQ section of its website.

It turns out that Taco Bell was serious about the Mexican Pizza coming back this fall. “[The Mexican Pizza] is going to be relaunched mid-September, and it’s going to be a permanent item,” Taco Bell CEO Mark King recently told Fortune magazine. “I had more feedback – hate mail! – over the removal of Mexican pizza [more than any other time].”

King explained that the Mexican Pizza was removed from the Taco Bell menu two years ago because when the pandemic hit in early 2020, the fast-food chain tried to simplify the menu for its employees.

“It was time-consuming to make,” King said. “It also had a number of specific items that were only for the Mexican pizza.”

The removal, however, turned out to only be temporary since the public outcry was deafening. Even celebrities like Doja Cat and Dolly Parton took notice of the missing Taco Bell staple. “The marketing team said, ‘Look, we need to reintroduce it,’” King said.

King said the entire Mexican Pizza experience has taught him that some of the “magic” of Taco Bell comes from the love customers have for individual items. “So now for us, it’s, ‘What other magical items have we removed that we can relaunch in a big way to capture people’s interest or imagination?’”
