When motoconchista Juan Manuel Ávila asked Yaritza Alexandra to marry him at La Sirena in Santo Domingo, the proposal quickly went viral. In the video, the Venezuelan transplant arrives at Yaritza’s place of work, cake and flowers in hand. His friend offers moral support and holds the cake and flowers and Juan Manuel bends down on one knee to ask Yaritza to marry him. As she says yes, the crowd that gathered around the couple erupted in cheers.

And just like those who witnessed it, the internet has become enthralled with their story. They’ve spread the video far and wide, and transformed their wedding into the event of the year. The October 13 event, nicknamed La Boda del Pueblo, has exploded, reaching peak Los Quince de Rubí levels – that is, everyone in the DR is now offering Juan and Yaritza a ton of stuff to commemorate the day.
