Known as “El Rey” or Chente, Vicente Fernández is an undisputed icon of ranchera music. With his easily recognizable mustache and charro outfit, he’s been a staple of Mexican culture for more than half a century.  Over the course of his career, the singer earned three Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, 14 Lo Nuestro Awards, and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And while many will associate him solely with his music — more than 50 albums and 300 songs — the Guadalajara-born performer also boasts a storied history on the big screen.

Often playing downtrodden men who picked fights with those wealthier and more powerful than him, Fernandez extolled the same kind of populist spirit that made him such a beloved musical treasure. Often working as a producer of his own films, he made plenty of classics that championed underdogs and the working class. With such ample repertoire — all of which remains hard to find in the streaming age — we’ve found five to enjoy from the comfort of your own home. Check them out below.

All the movies below are available to stream on Pantaya, a new streaming service that’s like Netflix for Spanish-language movies.
