It’s time to highlight our favorite Leos! Often described as passionate, loyal, and bold, we’re continuing our monthly listicle with Leo, which approximately runs from July 23 to Aug. 22. The Lion sign is part of the Fire sign collective with Aries and Sagittarius. We’ve already covered our Aries favs, now let’s continue with our beloved Leos.
There are many famous Latine Leos, including Spanish-Mexican pop icon Belinda, who is known for reinventing herself. It makes sense, since Leos are known to be passionate and bold, qualities that Beli showcases in her evolving music, which keeps her audience on their toes. She’s also known for creating hits from her past experiences, like heartbreaks, which highlights both traits mentioned above. But there are more mainstream artists we’re celebrating this month. We’re also toasting música mexicana star Carin León, whose birthday is July 26.
Besides our aforementioned favorites, more artists blowing candles this month include Dominican-Italian singer-songwriter YENDRY, Colombian singer Elsa Y Elmar, and Argentinean singer Paco Amoroso, who often demonstrate their sign’s knack for passion and boldness through their enticing and creative music. We’re also celebrating Afro-Latina twins Coco & Breezy, Colombian rock star Juanes, and Mexican pop queen Denisse Guerrero of Belanova fame, who are loyal to their fans and their respective genres.
What else do we adore about each Leo artist? The way they release songs that continue to push their boundaries and keep their audience hooked. From Belinda’s música mexicana ballad “Mírame Feliz” with Xavi to Guerrero’s electro-pop single “Honestamente,” here are seven songs to celebrate our favorite Lion sign on their birthday month.
Born on Aug. 15, Beli has been in the spotlight since she was a child. What makes her different is that her popularity has not dimmed — on the contrary, it appears to be shining more than ever. She’s recently made both a music and acting comeback with her newest album INDÓMITA, and by co-starring in the musical comedy drama Mentiras, La Serie, demonstrating a Leo’s desire for spotlight and attention (which, honestly, she deserves). While we don’t know what Belinda has in store for her fans next, it’s clear that her bold career moves always hit and that she was born to be a star.
YENDRY – “La Puerta”
Celebrating her birthday on July 27, YENDRY is known to be a passionate singer. She demonstrates this in her hit songs like “Nena,” “Barrio,” and “KI-KI,” which showcase a different side of her musical abilities. Let’s just say she can do it all: dembow, bachata, ballads, and R&B. Her talented voice is adaptable and matches each genre’s vibe. In her last solo single, “La Puerta,” she showcases her Fire sign’s ability to be unapologetically bold by singing a sentimental and raw ballad about losing someone special. With her passionate lyrics, the Dominican-Italian songstress demonstrates that this Leo isn’t scared to wear her heart on her sleeve.
Elsa y Elmar – “Niña Mía”
Born Elsa Carvajal, Elsa y Elmar is a Colombian singer-songwriter known to be loyal, passionate, and bold, just like her fiery sign tends to be. In her recent single’s music video “Niña Mía,” she invited her fans to share childhood photos and what they would tell themselves at that age. By doing this, she showcased her loyalty to her fan base, who continue to support her from day one. In this particular song, she also demonstrated how passionate she is by singing heartfelt lyrics like, “Niña mía / Esos sueños que parecen de mentiras / Poco a poco empezarán a ser de arcilla / Tú sin prisa, y no le creas a tu cabeza / Cuando te diga que no mereces eso que tú hiciste realidad,” to encourage her fans when they’re going through tough times.
Paco Amoroso (CA7RIEL y Paco Amoroso) – “IMPOSTER”
CA7RIEL y Paco Amoroso’s popularity rise has been incredible to see in real time. But did you know that half of the duo is Leo? Born on Aug. 17, Paco is blowing out candles this Zodiac season. One thing about the duo is that they’re bold AF — they’ll blend genres, kiss on stage, and mock mainstream success, you name it. And if it’s one thing that we know about the duo, it’s that they’re loyal to each other, which is a trait that Paco’s Leo sign thrives at being. With that in mind, we hope Ca7riel celebrates Paco’s birthday big this year, because the hard-working Argentinean singer deserves it!
Coco & Breezy – “Manifest”
One of our favorite Afro-Latina DJ twins is also celebrating their birthday this season. Coco & Breezy — known for their immaculate taste in house and tech house music — are celebrating another year around the sun on Aug. 4. Born Corianna and Brianna Dotson, the duo is as stylish as they are musically talented. Not only do they exude their sign’s characteristic boldness and passion behind the decks, but they also showcase it with their sunglasses company that features attractive designs. What also makes their DJ sets unique is that they often deliver a positive, uplifting message, as seen in the featured song “Manifest.”
Juanes – “Una Noche Contigo”
Juanes is a loyal Leo rockero. Though he has dabbled in many genres, like cumbia and metal, he usually stays true to pop-rock, which he has helped popularize on mainstream radio throughout the years. Born on Aug. 9, the Colombian singer and guitar player is also loyal to his rock genre during live shows, where he sprinkles in electric guitar solos. With almost four decades in the spotlight, it’s safe to say that Juanes will go down in history as one of Latin America’s most popular pop-rock stars thanks to his Leo sign’s ability to be passionate, loyal, and bold. And of course, overall musical talent.
Denisse Guerrero – “Honestamente”
Mexican electro-pop band Belanova is one of the essential bands from the early 2000s that marked an entire generation. With songs like “Tus Ojos,” “Rosa Pastel,” and “Cada Que…” the trio popularized electropop and ruled mainstream radio in the aughts. But did you know their main singer, Guerrero, is a Leo? Born on Aug. 8, the pop queen is a Leo who practices the Zodiac sign’s trait of loyalty by sticking to her pop roots as she’s exploring her new solo career. In her newest single, “Honestamente,” she sings on top of a synth electro-pop tune that reminds her fans of Belanova’s essence. So now that Belanova is seemingly on a hiatus, we at least have Guerrero’s new music to look forward to.
