It’s officially Libra season! Often described as balanced, social, and into aesthetics, we’re continuing our monthly listicle with Libra, which approximately runs from Sept. 23 to Oct. 22. The scales sign is part of the Air sign collective with Gemini and Aquarius. We’ve already celebrated our Gemini favs, now, let’s continue with our beloved Libras.
There are many famous Latine Libras, including the Dominican-American rapper Cardi B, who usually has one of the most aesthetically pleasing music rollouts in the rap game. Take her latest album cover for Am I the Drama?, for example: wearing a bold red dress surrounded by black ravens makes her stand out. Another Libra trait that she has demonstrated throughout her career is never shying away from giving her opinion. But there are more mainstream artists we’re celebrating this month. We’re also toasting to Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía, whose birthday is Sept. 25.
Besides our aforementioned beloved Libras, more artists celebrating another year around the sun this month include Mexican reggaeton star Bellakath, iconic Cuban singer Celia Cruz, and Chilean singer-songwriter Gepe, all of whom have nurtured a loyal fanbase with their social skills and hits throughout their careers. We are also toasting to Venezuelan experimental artist Arca, rising Mexican reggaeton artist Chzter, and Colombian star Sebastián Yatra, who all have a distinctive aesthetic that makes their artistic brand pop out.
What else do we love about each Libra artist? The way they keep their fans on their toes with their earworms that are worth pressing replay on. From La Cardi’s hard-hitting song “Imaginary Playerz” to Yatra’s soft pop ballad “Templo de Piceas,” here are seven songs to celebrate our favorite scales sign on their birthday month.
As mentioned earlier, Cardi has a way of making her videos aesthetically pleasing. With stunning outfits, such as her glamorous red dress with a feathery coat, and her all-black look with a gorgeous diamond-filled neckpiece, La Cardi serves memorable looks on “Imaginary Playerz.” Throughout the video, she indulges in expensive dinners, jewelry, and other luxuries, which also plays on a Libra’s eye for elegance. Like many Libras, Cardi also loves fashion, and she shows it with lyrics like: “I’m the one who showed these girls what fashion could be / The first rap b*tch on the cover of Vogue.” What else can we say? She’s a Libra to a T.
Arca – “P*ta”
Born on Oct. 14, Arca has a signature sonic and visual aesthetic as a true Libra. The Venezuelan producer and DJ is known for her avant-pop, alternative reggaeton, and experimental sounds that make her one of the most unique and innovative music-makers in the Latine music industry. Not only can you tell who she is by only listening to her song production, but she also has a distinctive look: her long black hair is usually paired with leather or textured attire and high-heeled boots. And that’s what we love about this Libra. She pushes her creative boundaries — sonically and visually — without thinking of repercussions.
Sebastián Yatra – “Templo de Piceas”
Born on Oct. 15, Sebastián Yatra is another Libra on our radar. With hits like “Roberto Un Beso,” “Tacones Rojos,” and most recently, “Templo de Piceas,” the Colombian singer is loved by many. But did you know he’s into astrology? “I am a Libra and I identify with Libra. The truth is that I would be lying if I said I didn’t believe in the stars and destiny because I have been doing so for years…” he said in an interview. “Every year I celebrate my birthday in a different city, depending on what I want to project for that year, depending on where the energy is aligned towards those goals.” How intriguing!
Celia Cruz – “La Negra Tiene Tumbao”
Celebrating her heavenly birthday on Oct. 21, this icon is one of the most important Cuban salsa singers of all time. Not only was she social, but her love for stunning visuals shows in her impeccable, vibrant style, which has also made her a fashion icon. I mean, just watch the video of “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” Her radiant, feathery orange attire with a matching wig is as memorable as the video’s stunning model, who turns heads towards the end of the video. Though she passed away over 20 years ago, Cruz remains a Cuban icon thanks to endless tributes that keep her legacy alive. Needless to say, this Libra will never be forgotten!
Bellakath – “GATO MAFIOSO”
Celebrating her birthday on Oct. 5, Bellakath is another hardworking Libra artist that we love. With songs like “Vaquero – Remix,” “Reggaeton Champagne,” and “FRESITA,” the singer has become one of the most recognized voices in the reggaeton mexa scene. Imagine if she had never dropped her viral hit “Gatita” in 2022 and practiced law instead? She’s one of our favorite Libras because she keeps true to who she is and is publicly unapologetic about it. Moreover, with her collaboration featuring reggaeton star Maldy, she continues to put her Mexican flag on the reggaeton scene. We can’t wait to keep seeing her flourish in her career.
Gepe – “Rayoz X”
Gepe’s aura and music ooze balance — a common Libra trait. The Chilean singer-songwriter is known to deliver feel-good music that motivates the listener to feel balanced and at ease. Take his collaboration with Movimiento Original called “Rayoz X” as an example. With lyrics like, “Es tu vida, mi bien / No preguntes a quién / Tenemos la receta que nos merecemos [It’s your life, my dear / Don’t ask who / We have the recipe we deserve],” the singer reassures his fans that he’s balanced and has everything he needs inside. But that’s not the only Libra trait he resonates with. In a recent TikTok, he wrote in Spanish: “I’m a Libra… obviously I avoid conflict, I don’t like fights, I find it a little hard to make decisions, I’m a bit easy-going, and I idealize love a little.” Enough said.
Chzter – “prins rois”
Though fairly new in the reggaeton mexa scene, Chzter is coming in hot. She’s already released collaborations with artists like CRRDR, Cachirula, LOOJAN, RIXXIA, and EMJAY, putting her name on the emerging Latine experimental, reggaeton, and electronic scenes. Not only that, but she has also tested her acting skills on Ximena Soto’s “FANTAZIA / MI LOVE” music video, as the singer’s love interest. While we don’t know exactly what’s in her future, we hope Cachirula and Loojan invite her to perform at Coachella next year. Imagine the new wave of Mexican reggaeton stars coming together for a segment during their slot? Se vale soñar.
