The nominations for the 16th Annual Latin Grammy Awards were released today, and we’re not gonna lie, we’ll be rooting hard for Bomba Estéreo. They are nominated for two categories, Record of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album. Even Will Smith is excited.
Felicidades to BOMBA ESTEREO on their Latin Grammy Nominations!
Not everyone is celebrating, though, namely the few who submitted the albums for the Best Brazilian Roots Album category. The Latin Grammys site explains that because there were not enough entries, no one will be awarded this prize this year. There’s also 29-year-old Tony Succar, who produced Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson. Though the album reached the top of Billboard’s Tropical Albums charts and was released by Universal Music Classics, Universal Music Latin Entertainment, and Universal Music Mexico, it didn’t qualify for the Latin Grammys because it wasn’t 51 percent or more in Spanish or Portuguese, according to Billboard.
But there’s still some good stuff nominated. Check out some of our faves for this year’s awards, which we’ve marked with a ?. Wanna listen to this year’s nominees too? Be sure to also check out our Apple Music playlist below.
