Under the blazing sun, weekend one of the Coachella 2025 music festival kicked off with many artists making their debuts in the desert and others returning from Apr.11 to 13 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. From surprise appearances to orchestrated versions of hit songs, festivalgoers got a wide range of music while celebrating the different cultures lighting up every stage.

This year, Latine music didn’t just show up — it showed out. Becky G popped up not once but twice as a surprise guest, and South America made its mark with Kali Uchis coming out alongside BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Argentine duo CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso making their debut, and a nonstop cumbia dancing session from Peru’s own Los Mirlos. Mexican music had its own takeover, with Junior H and his $AD BOYZ tunes along with surprise guests and El Malilla turning up the heat with his reggaeton mexicano set that had the desert crowd moving.

Coachella has always been a festival where genres collide, and this weekend was no different. Artists from our communities brought their unique sounds to the stages, while also stepping into different styles of music, from electronic to classical. Whether you watched from home or missed all the action over the weekend, here’s a look at some unforgettable moments that took place during the first weekend of Coachella 2025.

Becky G’s The Go-To Coachella Guest

Our contestant for the “Queen of Coachella” position is definitely Becky G. Over the weekend, the “Chanel” singer came out twice throughout other artists’ performances. On Friday, Becky G surprised fans with an appearance during South African artist Tyla’s set at the Outdoor Theatre stage. They performed their collaboration “On My Body” off Tyla’s debut album. This performance marks a reunion for the duo after Becky G presented Tyla with the Impact Award at the Billboard Women in Music last month. But that wasn’t the Mexican-American singer’s only featured moment. She also gave fans another surprise appearance alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic for an orchestrated performance of her song “Shower.”

This year marks Becky G’s fifth time showing up at Coachella. She was 3BallMTY’s surprise guest in 2013, Karol’s in 2022, Peso Pluma’s in 2024, and had her own set in 2023 — hence why we think she’s la reina.

South America In The House

As opposed to music from Mexico and Puerto Rico, South American music doesn’t always get its dues at U.S. music festivals, but in 2025, artists from across the continent got their shine. Peru’s Los Mirlos made history on Friday by bringing cumbia to the Sonora stage. The band, who has been around for five decades, brought their cumbia amazonica, also known as psychedelic cumbia sound, to the Coachella Valley, which had fans and newcomers dancing and waving their Peruvian flags proudly. Coming off of their first appearance The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and currently on tour, Friday also saw the debut of the Argentine duo  CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso at the Gobi stage,. The duo performed hits from their album BAÑO MARIA and the EP PAPOTA, as well as other solo tracks. Like Becky G, they also made a special appearance alongside Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic, performing their songs “Dumbai” and “La Que Puede Puede.”

Venezuela didn’t stay behind with performances at the Gobi stage Saturday with RAWAYANA and Sunday with musician and record producer Arca. Grammy winners RAWAYANA made sure to bring their Latine pop and alternative sounds to the desert, bringing along surprise guests like Danny Ocean, Rafa Pabón, BEBUCCI, and many more. Arca took a break from music, but since last year, she has been dropping hits and doing festival appearances. For this year’s Coachella, she brought out Tokischa to perform “Chama” and Addison Rae for their song “Aquamarine / Arcamarine.”

Last but not least, Colombia got a worthy representative with Kali Uchis, who made her return to the desert with a surprise appearance alongside BLACKPINK’s Jennie to sing their collaboration “Damn Right.”

Música Mexicana Becomes A Coachella Staple

Ever since Los Tucanes de Tijuana took on the main stage in 2019, we’ve consistently seen Mexican acts at Coachella since then. This year, Gen Z artists represented the most popular artists among their demographic. First up was Ivan Cornejo, who made his dreams come true with his set at the Mojave stage on Saturday. The young musician shared how he has always wanted to play at Coachella in between songs, which many were happy to sing along with him. With the appearance being a kick off to his Mirada Tour Parte 2, the artist is set to have a busy spring and start of summer.

Also on Saturday, El Malilla made history this year by headlining the Sonora stage, being the first reggaeton mexicano artist to play the festival. While he didn’t bring out any surprise guests, it wasn’t needed because the Valle de Chalco native, alongside his dancers, had the crowd moving and singing along throughout the whole set. He’s coming off his Tecate Pa’l Norte appearance and isn’t showing signs of stopping with upcoming events such as the Sueños Festival and a show with Judeline this Thursday in Los Angeles, CA.

On Sunday, Junior H brought the $AD BOYZ to the Coachella main stage, but fans were anything but let down during his set. “Our goal will always be to reach more ears, to win over more people,” he shared with Remezcla leading up to his performance, and that’s exactly what he did. He also brought out Tito Double P and Peso Pluma, who had him as a guest at his own Coachella set last year.

Latine DJs Lit Up the Desert

But música mexicana, pop, and reggaeton weren’t the only Latin American genres present at Coachella this year. A staple in any music festivals, DJs from our communities also lit up crowds all weekend long. On Friday, Coco & Breezy took the stage twice for sets, kicking off an eventful weekend for many fans. The sister duo started early at Yuma stage then provided a pick-me-up in the middle of the day at the Quasar stage alongside singer Kaleena Zanders.

Also on Friday, Bronx-born duo The Martinez Brothers delivered their set at the Quasar stage alongside Loco Dice. They energized fans ahead of weekend two, and their busy agenda of a headlining show at The Brooklyn Mirage on May 16th, and their fourth summer residency at Hï Ibiza kicking off in June. But if anyone’s going into the Coachella history books for iconic EDM performances it’s ALOK, who brought Brazil to the Sahara stage on Saturday with a performance that unfolded like a living art installation. The DJ featured the dance group Urban Theory, making a poignant statement to keep art human. He was also joined by longtime collaborator Zeeba to perform their song “Hear Me Now” and Ava Max performed a special remix of her hit “Sweet But Psycho,” followed by her and ALOK’s dance-pop song “Car Keys (Ayla).”
