After Nicky Jam pledged his support for former President Donald Trump, Maná is speaking out. This morning (Sept. 15), the Mexican group denounced previously working with Jam and removed their collaboration with him from music streaming services.

Following Trump’s debate with Vice President Kamala Harris last week, Lissete Lanuza Saenz wrote an op-ed for Remezcla about his racist rhetoric. Saenz pointed out how Trump’s unfounded statements are especially damaging to the immigrant, Latine, and Black communities. Nicky Jam surprised his fans yesterday when he appeared at a Trump rally in Las Vegas, NV. The moment was a joke in itself, with Trump first referring to the reggaetonero as a woman. “She’s hot!” Trump said. He then realized Jam was a man when he approached the podium.

Maná was outraged to see Jam throw his support behind Trump’s campaign. The Mexican group previously collaborated with Jam back in 2016 on the song “De Pies a Cabeza.” In an Instagram post, Maná shared an image that said, “Maná does not work with racists.” In an additional statement, the band added that they removed their collaboration with Jam from all music streaming services.

“For the last 30 years Maná has supported and defended the rights of Latinos around the world,” Maná wrote in the caption. “There is no business or promotion that is worth more than the dignity of our people. For this reason, today Maná decided to remove ‘Pies a Cabeza,’ their collaboration with Nicky Jam, from all digital platforms.”

In the comments of Nicky Jam’s Instagram post with Trump, there are other Latine artists who are showing their support for the former president. With fire emojis, Lenny Santos from Aventura wrote, “Lets Gooo #Trump2024.” At a Trump rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month, Anuel AA and Justin Quiles also threw their support behind him.
