Over the course of his short career, Alex Anwandter has become a Chilean pop icon thanks to his soaring synth-driven anthems, which explore everything from politics to queer desire. Anwandter has been relatively quiet since his 2016 album Amiga debuted to rave reviews, but it seems the provocateur and beloved activist is ready to make his return.
On Thursday, Anwandter revealed that his new single “Locura” is set to drop on August 17. A short clip posted to Instagram features a series of disco synth stabs and footage of the 2015 speech in which Trump announced his presidential bid – and infamously referred to Mexican immigrants as rapists and criminals.
Though the clip doesn’t include any vocals or lyrics, the footage of Trump suggests that the single will fall right in line with the rest of Anwandter’s politically minded repertoire. No official announcements have been made, but it’s possible that “Locura” will appear on a long-rumored upcoming album. In June, the Chilean artist revealed to fans that he’d completed mixing his latest project. And according to a representative from his label Nacional Records, “Locura” will be Anwandter’s first new music since the release of Amiga in early 2016.
Keep your eyes peeled for more new info soon.
