After opening his ‘No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí” residency with a new song, Bad Bunny has officially released it on platforms. On July 14, the Puerto Rican icon revealed his newest song “ALAMBRE PúA,” which he performed live during his residency’s opening weekend at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan (July 11 to 13).
Fans were stunned on Friday (July 11) when Benito kicked off his show with an unreleased song. Puerto Rican travel and culture journalist Victoria Leandra, who covered the opening night for Remezcla, said the surprising experience gave the audience a chance to take in the residency’s detailed scenery, which included cultural elements like the album’s signature white chairs and the island’s traditional dances. “The message that I took away from the fact that he began with a new song is, ‘You think this is the best you’ve seen of me? But no, you haven’t even seen what’s coming,'” she said at the time. “It was sort of like, ‘I am not gonna give you what you want, I’m gonna give you a hint of what’s coming. A hint to the fact that I still have so much more to give.’ That’s what I took away.”
Now, we know the song’s officially called “ALAMBRE PúA,” which means barbed wire. The new bomba and plena-infused electronic track features a thick bass and mesmerizing synthesizers, as Benito kicks off the song about a past, perhaps forbidden, lover. With lyrics like: “Si me deja’ te hago un bebé / Quiero darte un besito al revé’ / No sabía quе aquella iba a ser la última ve’ / Estoy tristе, que no la grabé, f*ck, no la grabé,” he opens up about an ex-lover that he’s still swooning over. Towards the end of the track, he says: “Al la’o mío ninguna se ve, bebé / Ninguna se ve, como tú ninguna se ve,” reiterating the fact that he doesn’t see himself with anybody else. The single was written by Bad Bunny and produced by Tainy and Luis Ahmed Irizarry.
