While teasing her next single, Belinda got honest about her return to music this year. Last night (Aug. 6), the Spanish-Mexican pop star released a teaser video for “La Mala,” which hits back at her haters.

After a few years away from the music scene, Belinda announced that she signed a record deal with Warner last August. In January, she made her comeback with the corrido tumbado “Cactus,” which talked about her past relationship with Christian Nodal. The following April, Belinda joined forces with Natanael Cano for her corrido coquette “300 Noches.” In that song, she continued to sing about moving on from an unhealthy relationship.

The next single in Belinda’s cathartic trilogy will be “La Mala.” In the preview of the song, she blends trap music with música mexicana. Like Karol G and Shakira, Belinda appears to be finding healing in opening up about previous relationships through her music. With her upcoming single, she talks about the backlash she has received from being honest.

“[The song] has very empowering lyrics,” Belinda said on the teaser video. “I relate a lot with this song because it’s how I feel. People are thinking I have a hole [where my heart should be] and that I’m mala. What they’ve said is that I’m savage, I’m a bad person, and a bad woman. Watch out! I say, ‘What the f**k are you saying, brother?’ You don’t even know me.”

“La Mala” will be the most hard-hitting song from her comeback era. In one of the lyrics, she sings in Spanish, “I have a hole where my heart should be / I’m no good with relationships.” Belinda also invokes some fierce wordplay by cleverly singing “reputación” as “reputa…ción.”

“La Mala” will be released on Aug. 15. In the teaser, she adds, “I know a lot of women feel the same as I do and they’re going to completely relate.” Last month, Belinda revealed that she has another collaboration on the way with Kenia Os.
