Beyoncé’s new album Cowboy Carter is finally here and she worked with a few Latine creatives on it. The pop icon’s country LP includes input from a Mexican-American artist and a Brazilian funk sample.
With her latest album Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé is reminding the world of country music’s Black roots. She made history last month as the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with her hit “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Earlier this week, she got her Latine fans excited about the possible inclusion of música mexicana on her album after she was pictured with an accordion. Even though that didn’t happen, there’s still a Latine presence on the LP.
When the album dropped last night, Jean Dawson revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he worked on Cowboy Carter. As of press time, Beyoncé hasn’t released the full album credits yet, but it’s amazing to know that the Mexican-American musician had some input. Earlier this month, Dawson released some music of his own, the bilingual EP Boohoo.
“Did some arrangement for this album,” Dawson wrote on X. “Thank you for my first grammy @Beyonce.”
On Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé also proves that she is never confined to one genre. Even though the album is largely country, she takes an unexpected turn with the song “SPAGHETTII.” The western rap banger includes a sample of the baile funk song “Aquecimento – Vem Vem Vai Vai” by Brazilian DJ Dedé Mandrake. Linda Martell and Shaboozey also feature on Beyoncé’s genre-bending track.
Other features on Cowboy Carter include Miley Cyrus on the song “II Most Wanted” and Post Malone on “Levii’s Jeans.” Beyoncé got co-signs on her album from country music legends Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. She also put a new spin on Parton’s classic song “Jolene” and “Blackbird” by the Beatles.
