Blessd just made history. On Sept. 22, the Colombian reggaeton singer became the first Latine artist to perform at the Ballon d’Or ceremony. The annual fútbol award event took place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France, earlier today.
“Music and football are bridges that unite us,” Blessd said in a press statement. “To represent Latinos, my country, and all dreamers at the Ballon d’Or is not only an honor, it’s a dream come true.”
The performance took place on the event’s red carpet earlier today. Dressed in an all-black suit, the Colombian singer sang his popular hit “CONDENADO AL EXITO II,” accompanied by a piano. “CONDENADO AL EXITO II” is part of his album SI SABE, released in 2024. The song lyrics talk about motivation, faith, and always representing where you’re from. Blessd wasn’t the only artist to perform at the ceremony. Canadian singer Charlotte Cardin also took the stage to perform her song “Feel Good.”
After the performance, Blessd posted a heartfelt Instagram carousel with photos of him talking to the media at the highly anticipated event. He also posted pictures of the performance. “Who would have thought that my grandmother’s rosaries would serve us well when praying 🤲,” Blessd wrote as the caption in Spanish. “The first Spanish-speaking artist in history to perform at the most important gala in world soccer @ballondorofficial. We are blessed and will continue to open doors for Latin America and the world 🌎. Proud to carry my flag, proud to be Latino, proud to be COLOMBIAN.”
The Colombian singer isn’t new to the fútbol industry. Earlier this year, he stepped into the world of European sports, becoming an owner of Vendsyssel FF football club. He did this by becoming the largest investor of the Legacy Sports Partners Fund, which bought the Danish football club Vendsyssel FF. As far as music goes, he recently released his collaboration “COMO OREO” with Fuerza Regida in August.
