Daddy Yankee Signs Multi-Million Dollar Partnership Deal with UMG

Daddy Yankee remains the big boss of business. The Puerto Rican icon announced today his strategic global partnership with Universal Music Group. The multi-million dollar contract is reportedly “the biggest in the Latin music industry.”

Ingrooves Music Group will support and distribute Yankee’s music released under this partnership. The TV and film projects will be developed with Polygram Entertainment.

“Daddy Yankee is both an iconic artist and entrepreneur whose extraordinary creative influences culture on a global scale,” said Sir Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of UMG, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to welcome Daddy Yankee to the UMG family and we’re looking forward to working together to maximize the worldwide impact of his amazing talent.”

Daddy Yankee’s first order of business with UMG is the release of his new single “Don Don” featuring Puerto Rican superstars Anuel AA and Kendo Kaponi. Ingrooves Music Group will distribute the song on Friday, Sept. 11. Yankee will still be recording and releasing his music under his own El Cartel Records imprint.

This new single is just the beginning of the new projects we have planned and I’m excited to get started.”
