Puerto Rican icon Daddy Yankee remains a king of YouTube thanks to his latest feat on the platform. His hit music video “Con Calma” is his second one to reach two billion views.
Today, YouTube announced that Daddy Yankee had his second music video cross the two-billion views mark. His animated collaboration “Con Calma,” featuring Canadian rapper Snow, joins the exclusive club with Puerto Rican pop star Luis Fonsi’s hit, “Despacito,” which features Daddy Yankee himself.
“To transcend different cultures singing in my language and representing it has been a core mission since the beginning of my career,” Daddy Yankee said in a statement. “There is no greater satisfaction than to continue building my legacy and continue to be relevant in the music industry.”
The music video for “Con Calma” first premiered in January 2019. Daddy Yankee remade Snow’s 1992 hit “Informer” into a reggaetón smash alongside the Canadian artist. Daddy Yankee, Snow, and Yankee’s animated persona, Sikiri, star in the choreography-heavy clip.
Counting “Con Calma” and “Despacito,” Daddy Yankee has seven music videos that have crossed one million views each. Those clips include “Shaky Shaky,” “Dura,” “Limbo,” and “China” with Anuel AA, Karol G, J Balvin, and Ozuna.
As one of the most-viewed people on the platform, YouTube also announced that Daddy Yankee is the most-subscribed-to Latin artist with more than 30.6 million subscribers. That’s not bad for someone who helped usher in the early 2000s wave of reggaetón and the genre’s recent resurgence.
