After being found guilty of violating the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, Del Records’ CEO Ángel Del Villar is speaking out about his verdict.

Through a statement by his legal team, Del Villar rejected his verdict. “On behalf of Angel Del Villar, we respect the verdict that was given today, but, we strongly disagree and are disappointed by that verdict,” the statement reads. “This is one of those times that the criminal justice system got it wrong. This case was unique and unprecedented and it is clear that this complexity unfortunately was misunderstood. The fight continues forward in the Court, there will be a prompt appeal.”

It continues by highlighting Del Villar’s positive attributes, such as building his musical label and being dedicated to his fans, employees, and artists. It reads that the businessman has a “real positive impact on his community.” It also talks about Del Villar’s personal life, saying he has an “incredibly strong circle” of loved ones who have given him “unwavering support.”

The statement concludes by shedding light on Del Records’ future: “This outcome will not impact Del Records and Del Publishing as they have nothing to do with this case. They will continue to thrive and grow as giants in the industry.”

Yesterday (Mar. 27), the Department of Justice found Del Villar guilty of doing business with a concert promoter with ties to the Mexican cartels. It was reported that Del Villar was found guilty of a total of 10 violations of the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act and one conspiracy charge. Per Univision, Del Villar will remain free until his sentencing day, Aug. 15. He could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.

Del Records is currently home to a range of artists like the emerging cumbia bélica artist Yahir Saldívar, the popular música mexicana group T3R Elemento, and many more.
