Mentiras, La Serie is a hit. Amazon Prime Video’s comedy drama is going viral thanks to Belinda’s character’s covers and the rest of the soundtrack. But did you catch these cameos from Latin American singers and actors throughout the series?

The TV series, which is an adaptation of the popular Mexican play Mentiras, El Musical, is getting nationwide attention. The jukebox musical incorporates mainly pop ballads en español from the ‘80s, interpreted by the cast. Belinda is one of the leading actresses, playing Daniela Levy de Mijares. Her interpretation of “Él Me Mintió,” a mashup of Amanda Miguel’s classic with Daniela Romo’s “Mentiras,” is particularly gaining traction. Amanda Miguel praised the cover by saying, “I listened to the version and I thought it was divine.”

But the series covers more classics from the ‘80s. The popular Argentinean singer actually makes an appearance during the fifth episode, which is called “Una noche de copas.” In her cameo, she plays herself as she sings her aforementioned hit with a black wig on at a nightclub as chaos ensues. She later wrote online: “An excellent job, you can see the love and dedication with which you did it, girls. Thank you for receiving me so nicely on the set.”

In that same vein, Romo also makes an appearance in Mentiras, La Serie. Not only is Belinda’s character inspired by her, but she also plays her mother. Romo is known for her hit classics like “Yo No Te Pido La Luna,” “De Mí Enamórate,” and “Mentiras,” the latter two featured on the series. She wrote to her fans: “Thank you, thank you, thank you for watching MENTIRAS la serie🙏🏻 No se la pierdan‼️It’s an embrace to the nostalgia, dedication, love and talent that today interprets this story of everyone💕.”

More artist cameos include Mexican actor and rock-and-roll singer César Costa as the public notary, Mexican singer and ’80s telenovela heartthrob Guillermo Capetillo as Beli’s father, and Mexican actor René Casados as a priest. Another Mexican actor featured is Ernesto Laguardia, who starred in the classic telenovela from the same decade, Quinceañera. He plays a bartender. More special appearances from non-’80s stars include talent like Andrés Zuno, who participated in the musical play’s original run, musical theatre actor Jonathan Portillo, and thespian Horacio Garcia Rojas.

Like the original play, the new series is a love letter to ‘80s pop balladeers. Beyond Beli’s role inspired by Romo, Diana Bovio’s character Dulce is inspired by the “Tu Muñeca” singer. Regina Blandón’s character Yuri is inspired by the “Maldita Primavera” singer, and Mariana Treviño’s role of Lupita is inspired by Lupita D’Alessio.

Mentiras, La Serie is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
