Ex-Menudo Member Adrián Olivares Dies at 48

Former member Adrián Olivares of the beloved boy band Menudo has passed away. The singer’s bandmates and loved ones confirmed his death last night (July 8). He was 48.

Menudo was a Latine boy band that was launched in the late ‘70s. The went through several line-up changes throughout the decades, launching the careers of the likes of Ricky Martin and Draco Rosa, who were both members in the ‘80s. In 1990, Mexican singer Olivares joined the band. During Olivares’ run with Menudo, they released the albums Detras Tu Mirada, Dancin’, Movin’, Shakin’ and 15 Años. He decided to leave the group in 1993. Olivares was also the brother of Mexican actress Karla Souza

In tribute messages to Olivares, his former Menudo bandmates revealed that he had died. The cause of his death is not yet known, though his fans think it may be related to a recent surgical procedure. Robert Avellanet, who was in Menudo with Olivares in the ‘90s, sent him a heartfelt message on Instagram. 

“I am still in shock !” Avellanet wrote in his post. “Strength to his family. Wishing your soul a smooth transition. I’ll always remember his great sense of humor. We will meet there brother. RIP Adrian.”

Another former bandmate and his ex-girlfriend also sent their condolences. Sergio Blass wrote, “Fly high little brother and much Strength for your Family … You were always mature for your age with your unmatched charisma. You will always be one of the good ones and you will always live in our hearts.” 

Sylvia Campos, who was once in a relationship with Olivares, wrote in a Facebook post, “My beautiful Adriancito you will always live in my heart, I was fortunate to share such a beautiful love with you, you were a great man, singer, son, brother, friend, but above all a GREAT DAD. May your path be full of light. I love you forever.”
