Grupo Frontera is Apple Music’s newest Up Next artist. On Oct. 19, Apple Music announced the música mexicana hitmakers as the next artist who will benefit from their monthly artist program that aims to elevate emerging talent. This recognition includes an Apple Music short film introducing the artist, an interview with Apple Music radio, and a late-night TV performance at Jimmy Kimmel Live! – on top of full support by Apple Music’s editorial team.

“We are grateful for the continued support from our Apple Music family and are looking forward to showcasing an intimate look into who we are behind the music through this project,” the norteño group said about the achievement in a press statement. Previous Latine artists who have received this recognition include Yahritza y Su Escencia, Omar Apollo, and Natanael Cano.

With the announcement, the group released a short film that showcases the members’ comradeship. They talk about their humble beginnings at the Arce Event Center in their hometown of Edinburg, TX, where they would perform monthly. Then, they take us to their new studio, where they continue to talk about how they started performing at quinceañeras and weddings and how that influenced their cumbia sound. Another shot shows the members having a carne asada, enjoying their time together.

It’s been a huge year for Grupo Frontera, formed by Adelaido “Payo” Solís III, Juan Javier Cantú, Julian Peña Jr., Alberto “Beto” Acosta, Carlos Guerrero, and Brian Ortega. Throughout the year, the Mexican-American group has consistently released hits like “No Se Va,” “Bebe Dame” with Fuerza Regida, and the surprising “unx100to” collaboration alongside Bad Bunny. The latter track even took the group to perform as Bad Bunny’s surprise guests at the massive Coachella festival.

Moreover, as far as accolades within Apple Music go, the group’s streams have grown over 3,000 percent in the past year, earning them features in top editorial playlists such as Today’s Hits and La Oficial. Their music has also reached Apple Music’s Daily Top 100 in 39 countries worldwide.

Recently, the six-piece group received the Billboard Latin Music Award for Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group. They also released their newest single and music video, “Amor Propio,” today (Oct. 19).
