Two of Celia Cruz’s classic albums will be available on vinyl for the first time in decades. This morning (Jan. 15), Craft Latino announced that the late Cuban icon’s Tremendo Caché LP with Johnny Pacheco and Son Con Guaguancó will soon be re-released in honor of her centennial celebration.
The Cuban icon was born on Oct. 21, 1925, in Havana. Before her passing in July 2003 at 77-years-old, she earned the title of the “Queen of Salsa” with her countless hits like “La Vida Es Una Carnaval” and “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” This year marks the 100th anniversary of her birthday, and Craft Latino will be celebrating her centennial with many special releases. The first of those releases will be a pressing of Cruz and Pacheco’s album Tremendo Caché on vinyl.
Throughout her lifetime, Cruz collaborated with Dominican musician Johnny Pacheco on several projects. One of their most beloved albums is Tremendo Caché, which was originally released in 1975. The LP includes their fiery salsa collaborations like “La Sopa en Botella,” “Tres Dias de Carnaval,” and “Cúcala.” The vinyl reissue by Craft Latino will be released on March 14. A “Caché en Negro y Blanco” black-and-white splatter variant of the vinyl is limited to 300 copies. There’s also an exclusive bundle available with a Vaya Records T-shirt. Fans can pre-order the vinyl now here.
For the first time in the U.S., Craft Latino will also release Cruz’s Son Con Guaguancó album on vinyl. The LP was originally released in 1966 with her classics like the title track “Bemba Color” and “Tremendo Guaguancó.” That vinyl will be released on March 7, and it’s also available for pre-order on the Craft Latino website. A limited edition red variant of Son Con Guaguancó vinyl is available for pre-order as well.
