On Wednesday, BFFs J Balvin and Nicky Jam came together for the Superstar Mano a Mano panel during the Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards to discuss the saturation of the pop-reggaeton market with moderator Leila Cobo. But more importantly, they playfully roasted Justin Bieber. As they spoke of how they hoped to see more Anglo pop stars teaming with Latino artists for bilingual remixes or guest verses, they saw a golden opportunity to poke a little fun at the Biebs – who had never sang in Spanish before jumping on Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” remix.
In the song, Bieber didn’t just lazily throw around a word in Spanish here and there, which gave Balvin and Nicky plenty of ammo. They broke out into song and began imitating Justin’s imperfect Spanish accent, adding in nonsense words like Doritos. As the audience laughed, Nicky Jam and Balvin clarified that they’re big fans of the trio and that they love the song.
