The first ever OutMusik Fest was held on this year’s National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11). Queer Latinx artists like Javiera Mena, Esteman, Raymix, and Georgel headlined the virtual music festival. Allies of the LGBTQIA+ community like Karol G, Chiquis Rivera, and RBD’s Maite Perroni also appeared during the event.

The first OutMusik Fest was hosted by Mexican singers Raymix and Georgel and Colombian singer-songwriter Esteman. The three openly gay artists also performed during the digital event. Georgel, who is one of the artists leading the Latin R&B movement, performed his latest hit “Demasiado Bueno.” Raymix and Esteman debuted their collaboration “Solo” in a special live performance.

Other highlights from the nearly two-hour event included Chilean artist Javiera Mena singing her new single “Corazón Astral” on a keyboard at home. American singer-songwriter LP, who has a large Latin American following, performed their hit “The One That You Love.” Fresh off the news of RBD’s upcoming reunion, Christian Chávez, who is openly gay, performed his solo single “Celos.”

Allies of the LGBTQIA+ community also offered their messages of support. Mexican-American singer Chiquis Rivera gave advice on how allies should take the news of a friend coming out to them. “The best thing that you can do is give them a hug, tell them that you’re with them, that you support them and love them no matter what,” she said. Chávez’s RBD bandmate, Maite Perroni, highlighted the It Gets Better project during her message.

The OutMusik Fest was presented in Spanish and English. Colombian reggaetonera Karol G offered her words of support in Spanish. “I believe we need a world where people can express how they feel with freedom,” she said. “We all have to work together to achieve that. Thank you to all my fans in the [LGBTQIA+] community who inspire me with everything that they’re doing.”
