Over a year after his murder, Chuy Montana’s debut album will soon see the light of day. Last night (June 15), the late corridos star’s label announced the release date for No Fue Suerte.

Montana first rose to prominence in March 2023 in a viral video. While waiting to cross the border from Tijuana to San Diego, CA, Fuerza Regida’s Jesús Paz Ortiz (JOP) met Montana. After hearing him sing, JOP signed him on the spot to his label, Street Mob Records. Montana released hits like “Porte de Scarface” and “Que Bendición” thereafter.

On Feb. 7, 2024, Montana was found murdered near the Playas de Rosarito-Tijuana highway. He was 19. Later that month, Baja California attorney general María Elena Andrade revealed that Kevin Alejandro “N” was arrested as a suspect in the murders of Montana and his driver. The authorities said that Montana was at a party the night before and sang a song that one of his attackers didn’t like. That reportedly set in motion the plot to murder Montana.

As of press time, there hasn’t been any further developments in the case of the singer’s murder. Street Mob Records revealed that his highly anticipated debut album is coming soon. In a post on Instagram, the label announced that No Fue Suerte will be released on June 26. The title is taken from a phrase on Montana’s gravestone that reads: “No fue suerte. Estamos bendecidos.”
There’s no word yet on what to expect from the No Fue Suerte album. The black-and-white cover art features a photo of his face. JOP also reposted the announcement on his Instagram stories. Perhaps the Fuerza Regida frontman got a few other corridos stars to feature on Montana’s posthumous album. Another one of Montana’s big hits is “Polvos de Chanel” from Fuerza Regida’s Pa Las Baby’s y Belikeada LP.
