Julio Iglesias is looking to clear his name. Earlier this week, the emblematic Spanish singer-songwriter was accused of sexual assault by two live-in employees. Now, he is telling the media that he will clear everything up in due time.
On Jan. 12, the Spanish outlet El Diario and Univision Noticias reported that two women claimed that Iglesias sexually assaulted them in 2021 when they both worked as live-in employees in two of his Caribbean mansions (Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and Lyford Cay, Bahamas). One of the workers said she was “pressured” to have sex with Iglesias, claiming there were “acts of penetration, slapping, and physical and verbal abuse.” The other woman—who was his physical therapist—said her experience involved “touching, insults, and humiliation during their workday.” Both women claim that the women in charge of the staff at the time knew what was going on, but they have not responded to any media calls.
Furthermore, the alleged victims also claim that the person in charge of the household staff—who was also in charge of arranging medical exams like STD tests—also “encouraged and participated in Julio Iglesias’ sexual requests.” However, they also have not responded to the media’s repeated attempts to contact them, according to the report. In a nutshell, the report detailed how Iglesias separated workers in a “classist” manner and imposed strict conditions on them. It also noted Iglesias’ hot temper and the explicit sexual details that he allegedly made them engage in. The investigation was conducted by the aforementioned media outlets over three years. The media outlets talked to 15 ex-employees who worked for Iglesias from the 1990s to 2023.
The Spanish singer has yet to make an official statement about the accusations. However, he reportedly talked to HOLA. Though they don’t have a direct quote from Iglesias, they reported that “it is not the right time for him to speak, but he [told them] emphatically that that moment will come very soon.” They also note that the singer insisted that the “truth will come out very soon” and that “everything will be clarified.”
With this new report, previous incidents by stars like iconic Mexican actress Verónica Castro have also resurfaced online. In 2022, Castro openly talked about how Iglesias inappropriately grabbed her behind in one event, and at a separate occasion, he kissed her without consent.
